Using the Client Behind a Firewall
PROLIN Smart Client requires network access to communicate with the Service Desk server. If your computer is protected by a firewall, you must either:
- ✅ Create an exception for the
PROLIN Smart Clientexecutable (smc.exe), or - ✅ Open the required Service Desk client communication ports.
Default Installation Path
C:FilesSmart Client.exe
Example: Adding an Exception in Windows Firewall
To add an exception for smc.exe in Windows Firewall:
- Log on to the computer as an Administrator.
- Open the Start menu and click Control Panel.
- Click Security Center, then select Windows Firewall.
- Navigate to the Exceptions tab and click Add Application.
- In the Add Application dialog, click Browse.
- Locate and select
smc.exein the installation folder. - Click Open, then confirm
smc.exeis listed. - Click OK to add the exception.
- Close the Firewall and Control Panel.
Important Notes
- Since the application stores files in the user’s folder, each user on the same computer will require a separate exception for
smc.exe. - Alternative: Instead of per-user application exceptions, you may choose to allow communication through the relevant ports. This way, a single exception applies to all users.
Creating the right firewall configuration ensures PROLIN Smart Client can operate without network disruptions.
